How to Successfully Write a CAPS Grant
Timeline: The 2020 Grant Submission Window is September 28 to October 9, 2020. Teachers will be notified of grant awards on October 30, 2020.
Grant Application: Complete the 2020 CAPS Grant Application in Google Forms.
The link for the Grant Application will be emailed to all AUSD teachers on September 21, 2020. It will also be posted on the Grants tab of the CAPS website (atascaderocaps.org).
All grants must be submitted through Google Forms. No printed applications will be accepted.
Keep the Grant Request (title) brief and specific (e.g., “Field trip to the zoo”, “Books for classroom”).
Be concise with the Grant Description. What are you requesting? Where do you intend to use it? Who will it benefit and how?
The Grant Reading Committee may not be able to contact you for clarifications, so be very clear on what you are proposing.
Once applications have been submitted, the Grant Committee will bundle them per site and submit them to your Principal for final approval. Your Principal must approve the Application before it can be considered by the Committee.
Please itemize and make sure your itemizations are clear. If ordering from a website or catalog, include the name of the vendor, the item name/number, the cost per item, and include shipping and handling. You may include a link to your online shopping cart if you wish. The Google Form will calculate tax.
Each Application can only accommodate 5 items. If you are requesting more than 5, you will need to complete additional Applications. Label them consecutively so we know you are requesting more than 5 items as part of the same grant (i.e. “Books for the Classroom #1, Books for the Classroom #2, etc.)
CAPS grants will not be awarded for personnel expenses, for capital improvements, or to purchase food.
CAPS does not provide reimbursements to grant recipients. All granted items will be purchased by CAPS or the AUSD District Office.
Field Trips: CAPS will not offer grants for field trips this year due to the uncertainty caused by COVID-19. Instead, we recommend guest speakers who are able to present their work either via video conference or in-person if students are able to return to the classroom later in the year.
Technology Requests: These Applications MUST be pre-approved by the AUSD Technology Services Department or they will be denied. A link to a Technology Form will be will be emailed to all AUSD teachers on September 15, 2020. It will also be posted on the Grants tab of the CAPS website (atascaderocaps.org). Please include the ID number of your Technology Approval form on your Grant Application.
Awarding of Grants: Teachers and Administrators will be notified of their grant awards on October 30, 2020. The CAPS Grant Committee will advise if your grant will be fulfilled through the CAPS committee or the District. CAPS will coordinate delivery of all items we purchase to teachers at their school sites. Grants fulfilled through the District Office will be coordinated with Brooke Austin in Business Services. All Technology Grants will go through Candy Smet in Tech Services.
