CAPS is a volunteer-run organization made up of parents, teachers, retired teachers, and community members that operates under the nonprofit umbrella of The Atascadero Greyhound Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization. CAPS was formed in 2007 to help provide teachers in the Atascadero Unified School District the extra financial support needed to offer important educational resources that may not available due to the reductions in the School District budget. Teachers are asked to submit grant proposals for funding consideration. Our funds are then distributed to all the schools in the Atascadero Unified School District. Each school receives a total grant award based on the number of students at their site.
We hold an annual Evening for Education which consists of a dinner, live and silent auctions and casino gaming. All the proceeds from the event including sponsorship go towards these educational grants. Since its inception, CAPS has granted over $800,000 for various items including Field Trips, Musical Instruments, Marching Band Uniforms, Photo Book Projects, Battle of Books, iPads, a Pottery Wheel, Science Equipment and much more.
CAPS is honored to have received the Organization of the Year award from the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce in 2012 as well as the 2102 Gold Award from the California Teachers Association.
