Mission Statement: C.A.P.S. (The Committee for Atascadero Public Schools) is a dedicated committee of volunteers
focused on providing grants to support educational programs for ALL Atascadero public schools through ongoing fund raising
and donations. History: CAPS was formed by a group of parents, community
members and retired teachers in the spring of 2007 and four months later hosted their first annual Evening for Education-
Twilight
in Tuscany. In that first event, $60,000 was raised and given in grants to teachers. The next year, 2008, CAPS hosted our
2nd annual
Evening for Education- Discovering New Worlds! and granted $46,000 to teachers. 2009, our
3rd year, and
in the middle of the Great Recession, our Evening for Education-It's a Jungle Out There!
granted $72, 680 that went directly to teachers for programs, technology teaching enhancements, new books for every elementary
school library, and more. In 2011 our event raised $38,000 to be given for grants and another $8,000 for the Junior
High.
Goals: #1- To zero-base our event and maximize
our teacher grant funding- this means we pay for as little as we can due to the enormous generosity of sponsors who underwrite
everything from printing of the invitations through the decorating of the venue and on to all of our wine and beverages that
are served.
#2- To present $100,000 in grants to our teachers in October of 2012.

We are looking for CAPS volunteers! CAPS (Committee for Atascadero Public
Schools) needs volunteers as it prepares for the 5th annual Evening
for Education! This event is a night of fabulous dining, dancing and silent & live auction bidding! As a
result of CAPS's efforts this past year, teachers and school libraries in our district will receive nearly $45,000 in program
grant funding benefiting ALL of our children, from kindergarten through high school. The planning committee, which meets monthly, is in need of individuals
with a commitment to their children’s education to become CAPS volunteers. We need members to help with big jobs
and little jobs; seeking live and silent auction items, set-up or clean-up the day of the event, processing and organizing
the auction items, stuffing invitations, picking up auction or event items, producing the catalog, maintaining the web site,
doing graphic arts and advertising, decorating auction baskets and so much more. This will enable all of us to guarantee the
success of CAPS yet again at our gala event on Saturday, August 13th, 2011 at the Pavilion on the Lake. If you can help, or have questions regarding general volunteer
work for CAPS, please call 952-5443 or e-mail Lori Mello at: lrmello@sbcglobal.net or Terry Boche at: nboche@slonet.org . Thank You!
